Overview

Telecom solution for a JV of Fortune 500 company

Business Problem
Prepaid Mobile customer is a fast growing customer segment in India. For client this segment constitutes over 80% of customer base and generates about 50% of mobile business revenue. While Prepaid business in India is growing exponentially, Prepaid customers have very few barriers to switching. In order to operate in this growing and competitive market, there is a need to create service differentiations to raise barrier for customer switching to other competition. Hence client needed architecture for their prepaid customer care and provisioning solution that would meet this demand of rapidly growing client base as well as quick time to market for launching new mobile services.

Solution
In order to address this business problem, we recommended transforming Prepaid Customer Care architecture to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that provides following benefits:

Reduced Total Cost of Ownership for IBM
Service Oriented hence no dependency on single service
Use commercial off the shelf (COTS) products wherever possible
   – IBM has rich set of products to build a robust SOA
Scalability, Reliability, Availability
ON-Demand
Quick Time to Market for new Services
Focus on Business Problem – Remove IT Limitations
Common Architecture

Project
This project was undertaken as a study of client’s existing prepaid customer care and provisioning system, and a future architecture, high level solution design, and an implementation roadmap was defined; and rapid UI prototyping was done. This project was done by an offshore team of 2 architects and 3 systems engineers. This team had following skills:

Understanding of prepaid mobile service business domain
Solution architecture and design
Rich User Interface Design

Technologies
The foundation of the proposed prepaid customer-care solution is based on the IBM proposed Service Provider Delivery Environment (SPDE) framework and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that comprises of service providers providing service to consumers through standards based well-defined service interfaces. System components include COTS products like Websphere Portal Server (WPS), Websphere Process Choreographer (WPC), Websphere Application Server (WAS), Websphere MQ Series, Tivoli Access manager, Tivoli Directory Server, Tivoli Netview, Business Objects WEBI Reporting product suite.
